Antonella Mellini (b. 1973) is a conceptual artist and performer whose research investigates the relationship between matter, sensory induction, and energetic dynamics.
Statement
The foundation of my practice lies in the creation of a symbolic and energetic network extending across different contexts, articulated through sculpture and performative action as tools for connection. Within this system, each individual artwork functions as an autonomous, active node: a sculptural presence operating as a contemporary antenna—a point of transmission and reception where matter becomes a carrier of intention, memory, and energetic dynamics. The sculptures are designed to inhabit space in multiple orientations—standing, suspended, grounded, or inverted—delineating a plurality of positions that prompts a shift in perception and reconfigures the relationship between the body, volume, and environmental space.
The cornerstone of this genesis is the integration of soundproofing headphones within my installations. Utilized as autonomous conceptual artworks themselves, the noise-canceling headphones function as a physical threshold that, by neutralizing external sonic interference, induces a state of deep internal resonance, allowing the viewer’s personal energy to merge with the hidden layers of the sculptural matter.
